Drawing a New Path for Sexual Wellbeing: Movember’s National Convening

Transforming conversations into action through visual thinking and facilitation.

The Challenge for Movember

Prostate cancer is a life-altering diagnosis, and while treatment often focuses on survival, the impact on sexual health and wellbeing is frequently overlooked. Movember recognised the need to change the system to better support prostate cancer survivors and their families. They brought together leading experts in sexual health and wellbeing for a two-day summit, aiming to create a roadmap for meaningful change. The challenge? Ensuring that the convening wasn’t just another roundtable discussion but a dynamic, productive, and deeply engaging experience that inspired real solutions.

Our Approach: Structured Fun

Sketch Group was brought on board not just as visual documenters but as active facilitators of change. We collaborated with Movember from the outset to co-design an experience that would energise participants and foster creativity. Our role included:

  • Event Planning & Facilitation: Shaping the agenda to ensure focused discussions and guiding participants through a structured but flexible process.
  • Graphic Recording: Capturing key insights in real time through visual storytelling, ensuring complex ideas were documented and made accessible.
  • Engagement Tools: Developing bespoke visual templates and life-sized foam core figures to bring patient perspectives to life, fostering empathy and deeper discussion.

Our Solution for Movember

To elevate engagement and ensure lasting impact, we implemented a range of creative solutions:

  • Immersive Visual Templates: Custom-designed worksheets and frameworks helped structure discussions, making it easier for participants to build ideas collaboratively.
  • Life-Sized Patient Figures: These foam core cutouts, featuring real patient stories, acted as physical reminders of the people at the heart of the issue, prompting more human-centred thinking.
  • Live Graphic Recording: By visually mapping conversations in real time, we helped capture the energy and collective intelligence of the room, allowing ideas to be easily referenced and built upon throughout the summit.
  • Dynamic Facilitation: Our team guided discussions, ensuring that everyone had a voice, ideas were synthesised, and tangible next steps were developed.

The Outcome of This Approach

Movember’s National Convening was a resounding success, bringing together diverse stakeholders in a way that was not just insightful but also deeply engaging. By the end of the two days:

  • A clear, actionable roadmap had been co-developed by experts, setting the stage for systemic change.
  • Participants left feeling heard, energised, and inspired, with a sense of ownership over the next steps.
  • The graphic recordings served as both a record of the event and a tool for communicating key insights beyond the room, ensuring the momentum continued.

By combining facilitation, graphic recording, and creative engagement tools, Sketch Group helped Movember not only visualise but also take meaningful steps toward improving the system for prostate cancer survivors and their families. Because sometimes, the best way to change the system is to see it differently first.
